August 9, 2010 Meeting Minutes

9^th Meeting of the 2010 OPLL Board

OPLL Board Meeting, 8/9/2010, called to order at 7:30pm.    

Attendees:   Scott Addeo, Jim Biddle, Ted Chmiel, Eric Dietz, Tim Frappa, Rick Galas, Matt Gdowski, Kevin Hassen, Don Jank, Jay MacCarrick, Pete Murray, Dave Obrochta, Joe Pici, Anna Radin, Karen Roward, Tom Roward, Jim Ryan, Joe Stallone.

President – Tom Roward

·         Season is over!  11U District players are playing in state finals tonight.  Both softball and baseball Little League tournament teams went to states.

·         Motion made by Tom Roward to accept last month’s minutes.  Second motion by Pete Murray.  Minutes accepted.

·         Thank you to all members for a successful season.

·         There are two needs to be fulfilled before next meeting.  1.  To fill positions and 2.  To nominate an OPLL volunteer of the year.

·         Open board positions will be posted on web site.  Anyone can run for a position whether it is open or not.  Those interested need to send an email or letter to Tom Roward stating their interest. 

·         To be eligible to vote for new members, current members need to have attended 6 of the 11 meetings this past year. 

·         If someone has an interest and there is not an official position, one will be created.  All are welcome.

·         A volunteer of the year needs to be nominated for both baseball and softball.  Please email the nomination to Tom Roward.  Volunteer of the year will be invited to September meeting to receive the award.

·         Not present.  Nothing to report

Director of Softball – Joe Pici

·         Nothing to report

Treasurer – Jim Biddle  

·         Concession stand income has not yet been received.  It usually arrives in August.

·         All sponsors have not yet been billed.  It will be compiled this month.

·         Sponsorship income is down due to less generated by Starz.

·         2011 budget will be prepared for the September meeting.

·         Four families remain unpaid 

Safety – Dr. Jim Ryan  

·         Double bases will be ordered for first base at all fields for next season.  Injuries were up this year.  There has only been one prior accident at first base in girl’s softball.

·         American League field problems were addressed

·         It was a successful year.

Managers Committee – Tom Roward

·         There are a few outstanding cases.

Sponsors – Pete Murray

·         Nothing new to report

Equipment:

Softball – Karen Roward

·         There are only a few equipment bags out

Baseball – Don Jank

·         There are 15-20 equipment bags out. 

·         More shelves will be put up in equipment room.

·         Winter inventory will be taken

·         Pitching helmets will be ordered for pitchers

Grounds – Tim Fitzgerald

·         Not present, nothing to report

Web Site – Anna Radin

·         Web site is working great

Baseball Travel/Tournament Director – Eric Dietz  

·         Forty children were added this year.  OP had a great showing in all areas. 

More kids = SUCCESS

·         Thank you to all who helped out with the district tournament games.

Softball Travel/Tournament Director – Tim Frappa  

·         OPLL tournament teams did very well.  12U and 10U went to states.

·         Travel is losing too many girls.  It needs to be addressed.  We need to keep the talent that we train.

·         Travel budget will increase due to New Era membership, indoor league at Sahlen’s, and membership at Sports Performance for core training.

·         Travel girls don’t want to play house, but it is mandatory and not negotiable as we are a house Little League. 

Special Events:  Dave Obrochta

·         Our inaugural golf event is fast approaching.  It will be held at Harvest Hill with a dinner and open bar to follow at the American Legion Post. 

·         More players are needed.  We want a minimum of 80 players and 120 would be ideal.

·         Cost is $125 per person.

·         Credit cards are now accepted as payment.  Please contact Dave Obrochta.

·         Sponsorships are still available at $100.

·         Dinner only tickets are available for non-golfers. 

·         Postpone discussions until September.

·         Will need a liaison to work with the Orchard Park Town Board.

·         Nothing happening at the Holmes and Murphy site. 

·         Welcome a visitor to the meeting, Brian Smith.

·         No questions or comments.

·         Please recruit new members for the board.

·         Each board member is asked to write a job description for their position for a manual to be created. 

·          We would like to find scheduling software to make scheduling easier.
