3rd Meeting of the 2010 OPLL Board

 

President Report:  Tom Roward

 In-person registration was held on January 9.  75 people showed up on that day.  A meeting is set for 1/26/10 with the OP Town Recreation Department to discuss funding.  The Town has approved budget for the organization.

 

A request for field usage of California and Taylor Roads needs to be completed by the end of March.

 

Commissions should start finding coaches for their league.

 

Clean-up Day is April 10th.  Arthur’s has generously offered to assist with clean-up day donating lunch for the volunteers plus giving away 3 to 4 dozen leaf rakes to the first volunteers.  More volunteers’ gives grounds people the opportunity to work on diamonds.  If weather permits the water will be turned on that day.

 

Strategic Planning group needs to get together.

 

Need to get people signed up for CPR class.

 

OPLL will host Major League Base Ball “Pitch, Hit and Run” Competition in May.  This is open to anyone.  A date needs to be selected.

 

Little League has a new pilot program with 70ft field.  As more information comes out it will be shared.

 

December minutes approved.

 

Director of Baseball:  Tom Prince

Play-offs will be a 1 game elimination and games will finish by July 4. Change to by-laws, which will be voted on at the February meeting.

 

A letter (via e-mail) will be sent to the parents outlining the try-out/evaluation system.  This will also be posted on the web site.  Also, an outline will be included with what will be done at the try-out.  The plan is to have more structure for the evaluations.

 

Tom discussed a fundraising idea of having camera’s installed on all fields.  The games uploaded on a web site.  Questions arose about information on the web and fee structure. 

 

Director of Soft Ball- Joe Pici

There are 26 teams committed to the softball tournament in May.

 

There are approximately 1/3 of the anticipated players registered at this time for the house league.

 

Treasurer:  Jim Biddle

Walk-in cash/check registration down, but picked up $20,000 credit card charges from on-line registrants.

 

A budget and comparison will be shared at the February meeting.

 

Safety Officer:  Jim Ryan

There has been a recall on the OPLL AED’s and he is researching this.  AED battery’s are quite expensive, approximately $300/battery.

 

The AED class is a 2-year certification, if due please sign-up.  Commissions and coaches should be trained.  At least one person per field should be certified.

 

Suggested having a practice “code” to see how things are done in an emergency situation.

19 sponsors committed at the walk-in registration, majority are new!

 

Sub-committee had a meeting and discussed the following:

·         Contemplating changing the fee structure for team sponsors

League sponsor $350/$275 with early bird incentive.

·         Option for sponsors paying by February 1, 2010.

·         Naming Rights for fields.- potential of $1,500/field.  Need to review expense on signage for this option.

·         Golf Outing

·         Beer Blast- June 5, 2010- Chicken Coop (outdoor venue) $20per person, 50/50 split, Chinese auction with item baskets, a couple of bands for entertainment, volunteers needed to work.

 

Membership voted on sponsor and passed that the current sponsor rate is in effect if paid in full by 2/1/10.

 

Baseball Equipment:  Don Jank

House jerseys ordered, needs sponsor information by March.

 

Softball Equipment:  Karen Roward

An order for softball jerseys will be placed through Don Jank.  Evaluated current inventory of equipment with Joe Pici and have used equipment ready to be donated.

 

Used equipment will go to either Kensington Little League or Midtown Little League.

Travel/Tourney Softball:  Tim Frappa

The girls travel is trying to raise funds; the goal is to keep girls within the Orchard Park organization.    Parents need to bring in sponsors.  The indoor softball season is underway at Sahlen’s Park.

 

Travel/Tourney Baseball:  Rick Galas

An e-mail will be sent out regarding a softball/baseball programs at New Era  Park with Justin.  This will run on Saturday mornings and there is no limit on the number of players that can participate.

Coaches Clinic March 28, hopefully at Bryant and Stratton facility.
